Geographic intelligence: Know your world through story-telling
Most people would agree that our world is complex. We are confronted by increasingly important security and defence challenges and by very real environmental management challenges. Most people would also agree that there is now public awareness of the seriousness of major issues including "national security" and "effects of global warming".
But how do we (the spatial information community) translate these issues and challenges into topics, capabilities and strategies that will enable the creation of 'geographic intelligence' and the creation of a 'geospatial information infrastructure' that will support decision support systems, modelling and simulation systems, intelligent
transportation systems, intelligent weapons systems, and so on?
This paper/presentation addresses a number of issues by using a 'story-telling' approach to identify key capability development issues.
