Imagery - the next big challenge! Imagery trends, management, distribution, extraction, integration and use
With numerous Imagery Sensors for Aerial and Satellite cameras being used today, organisations are building up a huge repository of Imagery Assets. These asset repositories are developed without due considerations for the IT infrastructure and human time required to support distributing spatial imagery throughout the organisation. The idea’s behind dissemination of this information is used to maximise
its use and reducing the per-head cost of imagery although in large this is generally not measured.
In the current spatial world, no-one question’s the value of using spatial imagery in their GIS systems. Spatial imagery is constantly being used to put other information into context. Traditional GIS systems are very effective for managing vector information but it is barely adequate for managing 100's of Gigabytes or Terabytes of
spatial imagery.
This paper will discuss current imagery trends, management, distribution, extraction, integration and imagery use, without bringing your existing current business systems to a grinding halt.
In effect, cost reduction via innovative spatial image deployment will drive further use for spatial imagery. It is presumed you will have a general understanding on spatial sciences throughout this paper.
