Invitation from the Conference Convenor

On behalf of the Spatial Sciences Board and the SSC2007 organising committee, it gives me pleasure to invite you to Hobart, Tasmania, Australia for the Spatial Sciences Institute Biennial International Conference, to be held from 14 - 18 May 2007.

This is the pre-eminent conference on the Spatial Sciences calendar, and the Tasmanian Region of the SSI is excited to be your host.

The conference theme, "The Spatial Sciences Revolution - Powering the Information Generation", reflects the revolutionary way that the spatial sciences have begun to permeate everyday life, and also the manner in which the industry has re-invented itself to accommodate new challenges.

Today's professionals can truly be called "The Information Generation". The information derived from value added data, whether it be acquired from satellite, terrestrial, remote, direct, digital, analog or statistical means, forms the basis for informed decision making across both the government and private sector.

Spatial Information, drawing together the specialist disciplines of surveying, GIS, remote sensing, photogrammetry, hydrography and cartography is having significant and escalating influence in political and business decision making, in particular through the leadership provided by the SSI.

This conference will allow the information generation to explore how the Spatial Sciences Revolution can be focussed upon the greater good: the betterment of societal living standards, the preservation of life and property, the rationalisation of resources and the underpinning of human rights. Naturally, all the cross-disciplinary aspects of the spatial sciences will find expression, and the great breadth of our exciting industry will be on display.

The chosen venue, The Hotel Grand Chancellor, is uniquely situated in the heart of Hobart's fantastic waterfront precinct. Delegates and accompanying persons will find that Hobart has an unparalleled combination of sophistication, grace and intimacy, all set off by the imposing backdrop of Mt Wellington and the panoramic and accessible deep water port. As well, Hobart is the hub for an incredible range of Tasmanian adventures and touring activities such that the visitor will find it difficult to fit in all the options.

We sincerely trust that you will feel the excitement that SSC2007 is seeking to generate and that you plan now for Hobart, Tasmania, 14 - 18 May 2007.

Roll on the Revolution !
